Let’s talk about misery. Not just the feeling, but the album by EKKSTACY.
The 2022 project Misery was inspired by bands such as Christian Death, Misfits, & The Cure. The goth rock, post-punk, and mid-80s indie rock sound is INTOXICATING.
EKKSTACY opens up about how he wants to die by his own hand in the arms of his loved ones. He believes that this mysterious individual is too good for him. He also talks about how he “took so much drugs” he might pass away.
The imagery is scary but also beautifully executed, such as the moment when he speaks about the cuts on his wrists.
The entire project is a contradictory adventure. Mostly upbeat & yet so melancholy.
My favorite track is “Christian Death.” On this track, he talks about how he just wants to die. I can relate to that because, as someone with schizoaffective disorder (bipolar type), my downs can lead to dark times & an infatuation with the idea of taking my own life.
I know it’s wrong, & yet it feels so right to do so. It’s as if the multiverse would collapse if I remained on this plane with you guys.
I have a very strong connection to this album because although misery is a product of sadness, it’s a feeling I personally know to be beautiful in nature. Humans are going to feel misery whether they’d like to or not.
This is no exception, so when you’ve gone & made misery fun & energetic, I’m gonna have it on repeat.

Anyway, I love this album.
My rating is a 10/10.
I love that it’s sad. I love the echoey voice. I love that this project is so raw & EKKSTACY did not hold back whatsoever.
